Keller @ Large: Rep. Stephen Lynch On Why Trump Won Over Workers

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts Representative Stephen Lynch says Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election because his campaign did a better job than Hillary Clinton's in addressing the concerns of the average American worker.

"Here he is, believe it or not, a billionaire, basically as the hero of the American worker," Lynch said.

When he sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller last week, Lynch told Keller that Democrats were distracted with the wrong issues.

"We were talking about which bathroom to use, we're talking about free-range chicken, all these other issues out there, GMOs, that I don't think really affect in the short term what Americans worry about most on Election Day," he said.

Keller asked Lynch what his approach will be to working with Trump.

"One issue at a time," Lynch said. "For instance, I think there are a couple of big issues out there that the President-elect could get traction on on both the Democrat and the Republican side. He's talking about a tax reform piece, and I think there are a lot of Democrats who think that that's a fertile area for discussion."

The two also discussed the recent passing of the 21st Century Cures Act, and the problem of high noise volume in communities around Logan Airport.

You can listen to Keller At Large on WBZ News Radio every weekday at 7:55 a.m. You can also watch Jon on WBZ-TV News.
