John Goodman To Play Ed Davis In 'Patriots Day'

BOSTON (CBS) – Actor John Goodman will join J.K. Simmons and Mark Wahlberg in Patriots Day, a film about the Boston Marathon bombings.

CBS Films announced that the Golden-Globe winner is set to play former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.

The film will be directed by Peter Berg.

"Commissioner Davis is an American hero, and John Goodman brings the extraordinary combination of humility, gravitas and empathy to portray him," Berg said.

Davis worked with other law enforcement agencies to identify and capture the Tsarnaev brothers. Davis is now a security analyst for WBZ-TV.

Production begins in Boston later this month and the film will open in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016.

The film is being produced by WBZ's sister company CBS Films.
