Arrest Made After Jogger Killed In Sutton Hit & Run

SUTTON (CBS) – An arrest has been made in the fatal hit and run crash of a jogger in Sutton on Wednesday morning.

The Worcester County District Attorney announced 39-year-old Shane Newman of Sutton was arrested on a warrant just after 3:00 pm Friday after a traffic stop in Webster.

Daniel De Lima, 51, of Millbury, died after being struck on his morning run on Singletary Ave Wednesday.

Investigators credit great police work and the many tips from the community that led to the arrest.

"This investigation took place over the time-frame of about the last 72 hours and it was literally around-the-clock," Sutton Police Chief Dennis Towle said. "We probably gathered probably over 50 tips during the course of the investigation."

Evidence at the scene led police to believe that a white Cadillac SRX hit De Lima. That evidence led investigators to seek a warrant for Newman.

A white Cadillac with damage has been recovered by police.

Newman is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash causing personal injury and death. He is being held by Sutton Police and will be arraigned Monday in Uxbridge District Court.
