Jeff Howe On Danny Amendola's Uncertain Timetable

BOSTON (CBS) --- Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald joined The Adam Jones Show on Monday night to discuss his report that Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola recently underwent surgery on both his ankle and knee.

The injury news came on the heels of the announcement that Amendola agreed to restructure his deal in order to stay in New England. It could, however, at least partially explain his decision to take such a large pay cut.

"I think it's a pretty significant factor. It's just one less bit of leverage that he sacrificed, basically," said Howe. "If you want to connect the injury to the huge pay cut that he took, I think it's absolutely fair to do that."

Amendola joins Julian Edelman, who recently underwent surgery on his foot, as part of a banged-up receivers corps. While Edelman is expected to recover in time for the start of training camp, Amendola's timetable is far less certain.

"It's too early to know when he's gonna be available. There's definitely some optimism that he could be ready at some point very early in training camp, but that's just optimism," said Howe. "Week 1 is no guarantee. It's so early and there's just so much up in the air with the knee and how quickly it can recover, that it's hard to really pinpoint something."
