Jay Talking Travel Archive: Timisoara, Romania

One day in 1989, under the heel of the terrible Ceausescu, the people of this proud Romanian city had had enough. A massive crowd gathered and marched on Communist Headquarters. At first, the city was on it's own, hoping the rest of the nation would rise with it. A few days later, Ceausescu and his wife were tried and shot, their bodies shown on TV.

Today Timisoara is an easy going city of faded yet warm grandeur and it is my favorite city in Romania. Timis, as the locals call it, is really worth the trip, especially when combined with Belgrade, Serbia. We will visit Belgrade in an upcoming episode of Jay Talking Travel.
