Video, Shoes Link Gunman To Jamaica Plain Murders, Prosecutors Say

BOSTON (CBS) — The man charged with killing two innocent bystanders in Jamaica Plain earlier this month pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of murder.

Wilvin Guity, 28, of Dorchester, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Roxbury District Court.

Prosecutors say multiple surveillance cameras show Guity getting out of a car and firing randomly into the courtyard at the Mildred Hailey Apartments on May 4.  Christopher Joyce, 23, and Clayborn Blair, 58, were killed. Investigators say both men were unintended targets of gang violence.

Guity was also identified by the unique sneakers he was wearing at the time of the shooting that were later found at his house, prosecutors said.

Blair was a father of three. Joyce was scheduled to graduate from Salem State University this month.

"He will be missed daily and the family is hurting.  The community's hurting as well, but we got a little bit of comfort because we know that they have the gunman off the streets and that's one of our goals - the gun violence has to stop," Joyce's cousin Shery Frazier told reporters outside court Monday.

Guity was arrested Saturday. Many were upset the suspect hid his face in court during the arraignment.

"Very cowardly move to me if you have guts to pull a trigger why hide now? You took two innocent lives that should've not have been taken," Frazier said. "He didn't even begin to live his life and his life was taken before he got the chance to do anything with it."

He's due back in court June 13 for a probable cause hearing.
