Jakobi Meyers Scores First Career Touchdown In Patriots Blowout Win Over Browns

FOXBORO (CBS) -- It finally happened. Jakobi Meyers scored his first career touchdown.

The third-year Patriots receiver went into Sunday's Patriots-Browns game with the most career receiving yards without a touchdown. But his long wait to find the end zone came to an end late in the fourth quarter when Meyers connected with Brian Hoyer for an 11-yard score against Cleveland.

The touchdown finished off a six-play, 95-yard drive that put the Patriots on top 45-7 with 4:13 left in the game. Meyers made sure that he found pay dirt on the play, leaping into the end zone from a few yards out:

Meyers' teammates were pumped for the 25-year-old, as most of the Patriots roster made its way to the end zone to celebrate with the receiver. They were all eager to secure the football for him, which will now go in his trophy case.

Meyers said after New England's 45-7 win that the celebration with his teammates was even more special than scoring the touchdown.

"That was a moment I'll always look at," said Meyers. "The fact that everyone celebrated with me means more than the touchdown. I feel like it says a lot about your teammates and what they think of you.

"I know they've been waiting on it," Meyers added. "They've been real patient."

The euphoria that his teammates felt after Meyers' touchdown carried over to the locker room.

"I think it was just the highlight of the game. How it was all going and, then, to end that way with him getting his first, congrats to my guy," said fellow receiver Kendrick Bourne. "He's been working so hard. He works hard every day and he deserves it.

"I told him he might go on a touchdown streak now," Bourne added. "It was just dope for him breaking the tackle too and then making the play, but again, shoutout to the whole team executing on the play to make the play happen. It takes everybody."

Mac Jones was super happy for one of his favorite targets, though he sounded a little bummed that Meyers' first touchdown catch came from a Hoyer pass and not one of his.

"I told him today that you're going to score before the game. I didn't know it was going to come from Hoyer, but it was great," Jones joked after the game. "He is a great teammate, a great team player and that was much deserved.

"He's going to get more," added Jones. "From here we're just going to stack them up."

Meyers threw a pair of touchdown passes last season, and said that he'd like to throw another one at some point. He also wouldn't mind running one in, giving him a touchdown trifecta for his career.

Meyers finished Sunday's win with four receptions for 49 yards and, of course, the first touchdown of his career.
