Man Shot, Killed By Roommate In Somerville After Argument

SOMERVILLE (CBS) – A man allegedly shot and killed his roommate after an argument at a home on Ware Street in Somerville Wednesday evening.

Police were called to the home at about 5:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect, 26-year-old Edson Moreno, outside the home with a gun. He was placed under arrest.

The victim, 22-year-old Robert Favreau, was found inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Moreno was a resident of the home where the shooting occurred and Favreau had been staying there for the last several months.

"Tonight, the victim and Mr. Moreno allegedly got into a verbal altercation that escalated to the point where the defendant ultimately shot the victim," Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Wednesday night.

Ryan said a woman hiding in a closet during the shooting called 911 and told police exactly what was happening before they got there.

Moreno has been charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and possession of a firearm. He will be arraigned Thursday morning in Somerville District Court.
