IRS E-File System Shut Down Over Computer Glitch
WASHINGTON (CBS) -- The IRS put a temporary halt on accepting electronically filed tax returns late Wednesday due to a computer glitch.
The problem is blamed on a "hardware failure." No tax returns submitted via the e-file system are being accepted until the issue is resolved.
Those who have already filed their tax returns don't need to take any action.
The IRS says it does not think the outage will cause major refund disruptions and expects that nine out of 10 taxpayers will get their refund within three weeks.
