It's not clear yet what caused the crash.

According to Massachusetts State Police, it began when a Toyota Corolla driven by a 29-year-old Roslindale woman moved from the right lane into the middle lane of I-95 South and hit a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 38-year-old Tewksbury man. He was later transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

"Following that collision, both vehicles traveled to the left, across the median, and entered the northbound travel lanes, striking and/or causing collisions with six other vehicles," said a statement from State Police.

A 57-year-old Pawtucket, R.I. woman driving a Hyundai Tucson, a 29-year-old Randolph man and his passenger, a 25-year-old Attleboro woman, in a Kia Optima, a 55-year-old Southington, C.T., woman driving a Volvo S40, a 26-year-old Pawtucket, R.I. woman driving a Nissan Rogue, and a 25-year-old Providence, R.I. woman driving a Honda Odyssey were all transported to Rhode Island Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Hospital for various injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Mike Eddy's daughter and her boyfriend were injured in the crash. He was at the tow yard Friday to retrieve his daughter's belongings from her car. "A T3 vertebrae injure, fracture, that's it, both of them are very lucky to be alive," Mike Eddy said.

Her boyfriend got eight stitches after his head hit the windshield, but Amanda has internal injuries.

"I'm lucky she's a live honestly," said Breana Eddy, Amanda's sister. "It's just crazy, you don't want to hear that at 6:30 in the morning there was an eight car pileup and she was in the middle of it."
