Injured Massachusetts Hiker Carried From N.H. Mountain

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. (CBS) – More than a dozen people combined to help carry an injured hiker from a New Hampshire mountain on Saturday afternoon.

Amherst, Mass., resident Anthony Rogers, 65, was hiking on the Mead Trail of Mount Israel in Sandwich, N.H., when he injured his leg on the steep terrain.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said Rogers was unable to walk as a result of his injury.

About 13 people from various organizations helped carry Rogers about 1.5 miles down the train, where a fire department ATV was waiting.

Rogers was loaded onto the ATV and transported another 1.5 miles to a nearby trail, where a friend brought him to an area hospital.

Fish and Game officials remind hikers to take caution while on mountains. For a full list of recommended equipment, visit the Hike Safe website.
