Injured Bourne Police Officer Continues Recovery

BOURNE, Mass. (AP) — A Bourne police officer shot in the back during a deadly home invasion earlier this month is continuing his recovery at a Boston rehabilitation hospital.

A fundraiser for Officer Jared MacDonald is planned for this week at the Mezza Luna restaurant in Buzzards Bay. The fundraiser Thursday includes dinner, entertainment and a raffle. A gofundme.com account had raised more than $42,000 of its $50,000 goal.

MacDonald was shot Feb. 5 while responding to a home invasion at a condo complex. He suffered a fractured vertebra.

A Coast Guardsman stationed in Virginia is charged with killing another member of the Coast Guard and injuring her spouse.

MacDonald is currently undergoing physical therapy at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and his progress is being chronicled on a Facebook page set up by his friends.
