Ice Flies Off Truck, Smashes Windshield On Route 24

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) -- Flying ice from the roof of a tractor-trailer smashed a driver's windshield in Bridgewater Tuesday morning, officials said.

The ice came off the truck at 9:30 a.m. on Route 24 southbound and hit a Ford F-150 pickup, Massachusetts State Police said. A 35-year-old man driving the pickup truck was not hurt.

The pickup truck had to be towed from the scene.

"Please take this as a reminder to clear snow and ice from your vehicle rooftop, as the consequences could be catastrophic or potentially lethal," police said. "If you see a vehicle with snow or ice on its roof, do not follow too closely should something fly off of it."

Police said that if drivers see something potentially dangerous, they shouldn't hesitate to call 911.
