I-Team: AG Investigating Claims Webster Pet Store Sold Sick Puppies

BOSTON (CBS) - Last month the I-Team talked to several local families who say they all purchased dogs from Elite Puppies in Webster, Massachusetts. All of the owners told us their puppies got sick within days, or hours of bringing them home. Two of the dogs died.

Now, two of those families tell the I-Team the Massachusetts Attorney General's office is investigating. The families say the AG has requested all of the documentation related to the purchase of their dogs, including vaccination records.

Erica and Patrick O'Brien say they are cooperating with the AG's investigation. Their dog Zoe started getting sick on the way home from Elite. Within hours, Erica made a horrible discovery when she went to check on the dog. "She's not breathing; she's dead," she explained.

Since our story aired last month, we've heard from a number of new families who say they also bought sick dogs from Elite. We have also learned the State Department of Agricultural Resources issued fines of $2,000 to Elite Puppies for selling sick animals and for failing to maintain adequate records.

Store owner, Jennifer Gardner, refused repeated requests for an interview with the I-Team.
