Hundreds Of Stranded Sea Turtles Saved Off Cape Cod Beaches

WELLFLEET (CBS) – A record number of endangered sea turtles have been rescued after washing ashore on Cape Cod Bay beaches.

The Massachusetts Audubon Society's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary have taken in almost 500 turtles -- most of which are Kemp's ridley sea turtles -- over the last three days of conducting beach patrols.

The young turtles don't yet know how to properly make their migration, and as a result they become stranded in the bay.

The turtles will be sent to researchers at the New England Aquarium's Quincy Animal Care Center where they will be nursed back to health.
