Man Arrested For Having Several Weapons, Alcohol On Hull Beach

HULL (AP) — Police say an Abington man has been arrested for having an open bottle of whiskey and several weapons, including a loaded handgun, on the beach.

Fifty-five-year-old Paul Martell is charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, carrying a firearm with ammunition, carrying a dangerous weapon, and illegal consumption of alcohol on state property.

State police responded to Nantasket Beach on Friday afternoon for a complaint of a man drinking and acting aggressively toward his dog.

Police found Martell in possession of a large folding knife and a loaded handgun he wasn't licensed to carry. A search of his vehicle turned up more knives, a hatchet, a dagger and a machete.

Martell is being held on bail. An arraignment date hasn't yet been set.

It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
