Hudson Couple Uses Crowdfunding To Help With Adoption Fees

HUDSON (CBS) -- Julie and Jamie Pote have a dream.

"There is nothing more I want in this world than to have her be a mom, and I want to be dad. I want us to be parents," Jamie Pote said.

For years, the Hudson couple tried to get pregnant, but couldn't. So, they decided to try and adopt a newborn. However, when they discovered the cost of adoption, they realized their dream may be out of their reach.

"It can go up to $50,000, but our agency said about $40,000 at this point," Julie Pote said.

The Pote's say agency fees, adoption facilitator costs, and birth parent fees can quickly add up.

"We knew we wouldn't be able to do it on our own unless we got a loan, and we still have to get out," Julie said.

To help ease the cost, they are turning to crowdfunding to help adopt their child.

"There are people who have donated to us we don't even know," Jamie Pote said.

The Pote's GoFundMe page entitled "Whatever It takes Adoption Journey" is generating a lot of buzz and support. Their goal is to raise $10,000, and they've already received more than $6,000 in donations in less than two weeks.

"We are completely shocked we've had this much success," Julie said.

"Through GoFundMe, it's been unreal. I can't even fathom all these people donating to us," Jamie said.
