Hot Takes With Bob Socci: Leave Jordan Devey Alone

BOSTON (CBS) - The voice of the Patriots Bob Socci joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti in studio Friday afternoon to talk about New England's 27-25 win on Thursday Night Football.

Socci has heard the criticism of offensive lineman Jordan Devey, that he, as Felger & Mazz would put it, "is a Mormon tuba-playing pacifist."

Well Socci spent part of his appearance defending the second-year lineman, who probably won you over last night for taking exception to a late hit on Tom Brady, and doling out some punishment to the offender.

The latest edition of Hot Takes With Bob Socci:

"I'm going to stick up for somebody who played the tuba, and who may very well still play the tuba in his non-football time. He's taken a lot of hits, and I know some of it is tongue-and-cheek, but I want to speak up on his behalf. There was an instance in the Miami game where Tom Brady got knocked down and the referee had to help him up. His teammates weren't there to give him an assist.

"Last night, even though the Patriots absorbed a penalty on the play and it forced them to settle for a field goal on that drive, Antwan Barnes gets a late hit on Brady -- he should have been penalized -- but I like what Devey did in drilling Barnes, who embellished onto the turf. It sent a message like, 'Hey we're not going to stand for that.' I think that's a good thing. We talk about Logan Mankins being that guy who consistently did that for the Patriots, and here's Jordan Devey the musician doing the same."
