Hopkinton Police Seek Answers After Toilet Cleaner Disk Found In Trick-Or-Treat Bags

HOPKINTON (CBS) --  Hopkinton Police want to know who and why someone would hand out toilet cleaner tablets to trick-or-treaters.

mom made the shocking find over the weekend and brought the tablet to officers. Police say two kids, a six-year-old and a 14-year-old, who were trick-or-treating separately in the downtown area each received tablets in their Halloween bags.

"Generally the area is Main Street, and those roads off Main Street, both children were trick-or-treating in those areas," Hopkinton Police Sgt. Joseph Bennett said Tuesday.

The tablet wasn't disguised as candy. It was in it's original wrapper.

Fortunately no kids were hurt.  Police are now trying to find out whether a resident acted out of malice, or whether the incident was a mistake.

Police Chief Edward Lee said he doesn't want to unnecessarily alarm parents, but he does want to remind them to take a closer look at their children's candy bags.

"I know it's three days later, but still, something might have slipped by," said Lee. "We just want to be diligent."
