Homemade Cannon Explodes, Injures Man

NEWTON, N.H. (AP) — Police say a man was seriously injured by a homemade cannon on the Fourth of July in Newton, New Hampshire.

The 69-year-old man from Haverhill, Massachusetts, was found on the ground with his head bleeding Saturday night after the device had exploded.

He was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston; his condition wasn't immediately known Tuesday.

Police have not released the man's name.

The incident is being investigated by the Newton Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal's office.
