Holbrook Police Search For Suspect Who Jumped In Lake

HOLBROOK (CBS) -- Authorities are searching for a suspect in an attempted break-in who jumped into a lake while fleeing police Tuesday night.

The man allegedly tried to break into a home on the northwest side of Lake Holbrook just after 9 p.m. but was chased away by the homeowner and police.

"My dog started barking and a light turned on," resident Kim Santagata said. "My mom looked out that window right there and she saw a man with his phone flashlight trying to get in."

Police said they did not get a good look at the suspect, only spotting him when he was in chest-high water. Search and rescue crews set up across the lake, but he had not been located as of Wednesday morning.

Santagata described the scene as chaotic.

"It was really scary. I felt like I was in a movie because there was so much going on,"said Santagata, who called the lake water "disgusting."

No one was hurt and nothing was taken in the attempted break-in, police said.

Police told WBZ-TV that an arrest is unlikely in the case because the break-in suspect was not successful.
