The Massachusetts Turnpike westbound was backed up for 57 miles Tuesday evening, highway officials said. Delays began shortly after a tractor-trailer rolled over in Charlton just before 2 p.m. Massachusetts State Police urged drivers heading west to seek alternate routes if possible.

In Canton, a truck rollover on Route 93 southbound scattered debris across three lanes. Police reported the crash at about 2:20 p.m. and said to expect heavy delays while the cleanup continued.

Another crash was reported at about 3 p.m. on Route 2 eastbound in Leominster that closed the right lane.

More drivers than usual were expected to hit the road Tuesday as forecasters predicted several inches of snow for much of the state on Wednesday.
