High Tides Bring Repeated Flooding To Marshfield
MARSHFIELD (CBS) -- This latest nor'easter was a long-duration storm, involving three high-tide cycles. The results along the east-facing coastline were predictable with flooding and debris-covered roadways.
In Scituate Tuesday morning, Town Manager Jim Boudreau spent hours surveying the damage. Luckily, nothing serious.
In Marshfield, in the Brant Rock section, the esplanade flooded with the three o'clock high tide.
"We had a tide earlier yesterday afternoon, we had splash over. The tides continue to build up as the winds out there, the water doesn't go out so the tide at 2:30 in the morning caused all this flooding here making the esplanade impassable," Marshfield Town Administrator Michael Maresco said.
The waves were crashing into the sea wall, and splashing over homes. They brought with them sand and small rocks.
"I think it's just beautiful and I am just amazed at how powerful the ocean is," one woman said.
Lisa McKim and her husband live right on the ocean in Marshfield and when asked about the storms, Lisa referred to summer. "The beautiful peacefulness," she said. "I'm willing to take the risk."
