Heyman: Red Sox Not Inclined To Trade Clay Buchholz

BOSTON (CBS) -- With Clay Buchholz on a bit of a hot streak right now (4-0 with a 0.87 ERA over his last four starts), chatter has begun to spring up around Boston that it might be the right time to trade the streaky right-hander. With the Red Sox still in last place and six games under .500, the idea of adding a future contributor to a better team seems at least enticing.

But, according to CBS Sports baseball insider Jon Heyman, not to the Red Sox.

Heyman said the Red Sox -- like a lot of teams around baseball -- are unsure whether they're going to be buyers or sellers. If the Red Sox were to try to put Buchholz on the market, there certainly would be a market for him.

"I think the market would be decent if he continues to pitch how he has pitched. I think there would be a lot of teams, including the Houston Astros, his hometown team," Heyman said on Zolak and Bertrand (with Adam Jones and Rich Keefe filling in, along with Dan Shaughnessy). "I have gotten no indication that Boston really has a great interest in trading Clay Buchholz at this point, and I think that is [going to be the case] going forward because he has a reasonable contract with team options, and he is their homegrown player, and where are they going to get the pitching?

At this point, he's their best starter. So they're already working at a deficit in terms of their rotation. If they give up their best starter, and they have him under control for years to come, then where are they? So I think it's unlikely that they trade him."
