Heyman On Gresh & Zo: Umpires Embrace Instant Replay, No Issues So Far

BOSTON (CBS) - CBSSports.com baseball writer Jon Heyman joined Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak Tuesday afternoon to talk about instant replay in Major League Baseball.

Starting this season the MLB will implement expanded instant replay rules that allow umpires to review interference calls off all walls, foul and fair calls, and balls that are caught or trapped.

Managers are also allowed to challenge one play between the first six innings.

Gresh asked Heyman his thoughts on instant replay and how it has looked during spring training.

Jon Heyman hasn't seen any problems so far, but knows things could change once the regular season begins.

"There's been no negative reaction I've seen," Heyman said. "The time has been pretty quick, but again this is spring training so we'll see how it works out in the regular season."

Talk shifted to the umpires and how they were embracing the new instant replay situation. Heyman says the primary reason that the umps are for replays is because the league is behind it and that it's all about getting the correct call.

"I do believe that ultimately they would like to get it right," Heyman concluded.
