Head-On Crash Forces Temporary Shutdown Of I-95 In Danvers

DANVERS (CBS) – Part of Interstate 95 in Danvers was shut down during the morning rush hour Friday after a crash.

State Police say a man driving on the northbound side of the highway crossed over to the southbound lanes and then slammed head-on into two other vehicles.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. near the Centre Street overpass and Exit 48.

The driver of the car that crossed the median was seriously hurt.

State police say one car crossed the median and hit 2 vehicles head-on on I-95 south. (WBZ-TV)

Troopers had to temporarily shut down the southbound lanes so a Medflight rescue helicopter could land on the highway.

The driver was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital.  There's no word yet on his condition

His name has not been released, but police say he is 63-years-old.

No one in the other two cars was hurt.

Police say they still don't know what caused the driver to cross the median.
