Head Of Mass. Health Connector Stepping Down

BOSTON (AP) — The head of the Massachusetts health connector is stepping down after a tumultuous year in which the state's health care exchange failed and was later rebuilt.

The departure of Jean Yang was anticipated as a new Republican governor, Charlie Baker, prepares to take office.

Yang said Tuesday she is leaving the connector in a "solid place." She did not say what she planned to do after leaving on Jan. 16.

The breakdown of the connector's website marred the transition from the state's first-in-the-nation universal health insurance law to the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act, and forced hundreds of thousands of people into temporary Medicaid coverage.

Maydad Cohen, who helped oversee the rollout of a new website, will serve as the connector's interim executive director until the Baker administration chooses a permanent successor.
