Haverhill Crews Turn Man's Front Yard Into Snow-Dumping Site

HAVERHILL (CBS) - Paul Antico has lived in Haverhill for a decade but he's never had the plows push snow right up to his doorstep.

"It was right up to the front door," he explains. "There were these big boulders of snow leaning up against [my stairs]."

He caught the whole thing on video. Haverhill public works crews pushed the snow that covered his street onto his lawn, since he's the unlucky homeowner who lives at the end of the cul-de-sac.

In a matter of minutes, a small hill turns near his curb into a mountain of snow -- blocking the family's walkway and part of their driveway, to say nothing of their view.

"It's an unnecessary risk to the property," Antico says. "They think that they can plow a metric ton of snow on someone's front doorstep."

He called city staffers to complain and says that although they were rude to start, they eventually promised to move some of the snow. But Antico says they actually ended up putting more snow on his property than before. He's not only frustrated, but he's also worried about what his basement will look like when his mountain melts.

"I understand the inability to find a place to put it, but you don't shove it on your citizens' front doorsteps," he says. "It's negligent."

WBZ called Haverhill's Department of Public Works, but the man who answered the phone said he was not able to answer any questions.
