Man and woman found shot to death in Haverhill

Man and woman found dead in Haverhill home during well-being check

HAVERHILL - A man and woman were found dead in a Haverhill home Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide.

Haverhill Police received a request for a well-being check at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Officers arrived at a home on Broadway and found 24-year-old Loren Marino of Haverhill and 24-year-old Austin Amaral of North Providence, Rhode Island dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The Essex County District Attorney said a preliminary investigation suggests Marino and Amaral were in a dating relationship.

"We came out and there's a ton of cops on the street, a ton of ambulances and the ambulances are leaving with no sirens on or anything so you know something probably happened," said neighbor Emily Long.

Police said there is no known risk to the public.

"The street's blocked off, it's taped off. I'm hearing people scream and cry, people running down the street like, you know, something really bad happened," said Long.

Neighbors said they're stunned by the deaths, saying the commonly quiet neighborhood will have questions about how this happened.

"I feel really, really bad. It might be someone's family, it might be someone's parents, someone's children, a loved one. It's really heartbreaking," said Long.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Essex County District Attorney's Office and detectives from the Haverhill Police Department.
