Carver Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself In Leg During Training At Harwich Gun Range

HARWICH (CBS) – A special police officer from Carver accidentally shot himself in the leg Wednesday morning while taking part in firearms training in Harwich.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. at the firing range on Depot Road.

Harwich Police said officers from several towns were taking part in the Municipal Police Training Committee's Bridge Academy program.

The man accidentally fired his gun during one of the drills. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment and is expected to be released later Wednesday night.

The special police officer, who has worked in Carver for two years, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in stable condition.

Carver Police said a special officer "covers details and other duties for the police department."

An investigation into the incident is underway to make sure all procedures were followed.
