Plane Flips Over At Hanson Airport Days After Deadly Crash
HANSON (CBS) – A plane flipped over in Hanson Monday afternoon, days after a deadly crash near the same airport.
The Hanson Fire Department said the 20-year-old pilot was hospitalized with minor injuries after going off the runway at Cranland Aiport. The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. as the Cessna 182 was landing. The plane was returning to the airport after letting out four skydivers.
The FAA and NTSB are investigating. Preliminary investigations show the pilot may have overshot the runway, causing the plane to hit a ditch and then flip over.
The pilot has since been released from the hospital.
"I was coming in too fast due to difficulties with my engine, the flaps, and various plane issues," the pilot told WBZ-TV. "Everyone made it out. I'm safe, everyone else is safe."
NTSB official says they've yet to the speak to the pilot of the Cessna that overran the runway at a Hanson airport and landed on its roof this afternoon.

On Friday, a small plane crashed into a pond near the airport. Pilot Scott Landis, 34, died in the crash, while his brother suffered serious injuries. The airport manager said there appeared to be engine failure on takeoff in that crash.
"The gentleman that passed away was very well known and very well respected and loved in the community and it's hit an awful lot of people very, very hard," said Hanson Town Administrator Mike McCue. "I believe that they run a very safe operation here, it's just, again, one of those unfortunate coincidences."
