Loaded Gun Found In Carry-On At Logan For Second Time In Week

BOSTON (CBS) -- For the second time in a week, a loaded gun has been found in carry-on luggage at Logan Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration said a 36-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after a loaded .380 caliber Kel-Tec pistol was found in his bag as he was attempting to fly to Pittsburgh.

The gun had one bullet chambered and three additional loaded magazines, the TSA said.

The man's name was not made public.

The TSA didn't announce the discovery or the arrest until Wednesday. The agency said this is the fifth gun to be found in carry-on luggage at Logan this year.

On August 2, 28-year-old Kyle Maguire, of Bridgewater, was arrested for bringing a loaded gun in his bag for a flight to Kansas City.

At Maguire's arraignment, his attorney Ron Wayland said that he had no idea that the gun was in his luggage when he brought it to the airport, and the incident was an "accident" with "no intent."

"Dangerous and prohibited items can cause delays at the security checkpoint," TSA spokesman Michael McCarthy said in a statement Wednesday. "Passengers are solely responsible for the contents of their luggage and should double-check all bags before arriving at the airport to avoid such incidents."

Officials said anyone who brings a gun to a checkpoint faces civil penalties and possibly, criminal charges.
