Gronk Gets A Buzz Cut For Kids With Cancer

FOXBORO (CBS) -- New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was among the hundreds of people who had their heads shaved at Gillette Stadium Sunday morning to support children with cancer.

Kids and adults alike snapped selfies with Gronk as he and others participated in the 7th Annual Buzz Off For Kids With Cancer. The fundraiser supports One Mission, a Framingham-based non-profit organization that seeks to help pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Two pediatric cancer survivors buzzed Gronk's head, giving him a mohawk before shaving it all off.

Gronkowski said it's the least he could do to help kids who have been through so much.

"Going through a lot on the football field, you get a lot of injuries throughout your career," Gronkowski told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe. "But then you go and visit these kids and see what they're going through, fighting through cancer at the age of eight...it's definitely just inspirational. It's great to give them a boost, to see their favorite athlete coming to visit them...whatever it is to put a smile on their face."

Money from the event will fund programs such as music and art therapy, sports outings, financial relief, and parties at Boston Children's Hospital and the Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farmber Cancer Institute in Boston, and Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, R.I.

As for the cut, Gronk said it's perfect for summer.

"Just smoothe and bald now," he said. "It's always good when the weather heats up."
