Gresh & Zo: 2014 Patriots Better Than 2007?
BOSTON (CBS) - Could a 12-4 team really be better than a team that went 18-0, and was just a few plays away from going 19-0 and being crowned the greatest team of all time?
Greg Bedard makes that case in his most recent article on The MMQB site, and on Tuesday morning 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak weighed in.
"It's a hell of a question. The first thing I do is look at the defense. The one thing that failed you at the end of [Super Bowl XLII] against the Giants was that defense," said Zolak.
"You could say you got your ass kicked up front offensively, and they were able to rush just three or four guys and get to the quarterback, but the defense had a chance to close it out [and they didn't]. No disrespect to Rodney Harrison, [Tedy] Bruschi, [Junior] Seau or [Mike] Vrabel and all of those guys, but they weren't at the young stages of their careers. They were way on the back nine."
"The [Patriots] First Team All Pros in '07 were Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Asante Samuel, Mike Vrabel and Matt Light. Your second teamers were Dan Koppen, Logan Mankins, Wes Welker and Vince Wilfork. Your First Team All Pros this year were Stephen Gostkowski, Matthew Slater, Rob Gronkowski and Darrelle Revis," said Gresh. "Just to put it into perspective where your team ranks around the league."
