Gov. Baker Urges Mass. Residents To Stay Off Road During Storm

BOSTON (CBS) – Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker urged residents to stay off the road, but did not issue an official travel ban with blizzard conditions bearing down on New England.

"Unless you have a really good reason to be out [Sunday] we would urge you to stay off the roads," Gov. Baker said Saturday at the Mass Department of Transportation's Highways Operations Center.

The storm is supposed to intensify overnight, with blizzard conditions expected early Sunday morning.

"It's a Cinderella evening, you have until midnight to enjoy your loved ones," Baker said. "That should give everyone an opportunity to have a great Valentine's Day."

Baker also reminded residents that he declared next week to be 'Valentine's Week,' and he encouraged residents to buy from small businesses that have taken a hit from the severe weather.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh did not address the media on Saturday, but has scheduled a press conference at 10 a.m. Sunday inside City Hall to provide an update on the storm.

The MBTA will not provide service on Sunday due to the storm. A decision on Monday's service will be announced on Sunday.
