Gov. Baker Says He Thanked Obama For Federal Aid After Snowstorms
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker says he thanked President Barack Obama during his visit to Boston for the efforts federal disaster officials made after a series of snowstorms pummeled the state.
Baker, a Republican, greeted Obama at Logan Airport Monday ahead of Obama's visit with fellow Democratic leaders at the city's annual Labor Day breakfast.
Baker said he told Obama he appreciated the effort made by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as the state reeled from storms that ultimately dumped more than nine feet, breaking the city's winter snowfall record.
Baker said at times there were probably 100 people from the agency on the ground in Massachusetts documenting the damage and helping those seeking reimbursement.
Obama signed a disaster declaration ordering federal aid after the Jan. 26-28 blizzard, the first of the storms.
