Gloucester Mayor Resigns, Accepts Position In Charlie Baker Administration

GLOUCESTER (CBS) – The mayor of Gloucester told staff members that she is resigning to accept a position within Gov.-elect Charlie Baker's administration.

Mayor Carolyn Kirk accepted a position as the Deputy Secretary of the Commonwealth's Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development.

In her new role, Kirk will be responsible for coordinating operational and policy matters, emphasizing economic development and maritime economy, she said.

"Any success I have is due to the loyalty and hard work of my supporters, and you, the people who devote their working lives to this city," Kirk said in a letter to Gloucester officials.

"We should be proud of all that we have accomplished together over these past seven years, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the privilege to serve our community."
