8-Year-Old Girl Home Alone When Fire Breaks Out In Milton

MILTON (CBS) – An eight-year-old girl was left alone when her house went up in flames in Milton Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters say the girl was with neighbors across the street when they arrived at the home on Hudson Street.

The fire started in the kitchen of the first floor unit of the two-family home and extended outside to the rear deck.

Fire officials say the girl's mother was at the store when the fire started. Police say the Department of Children and Families was notified and is investigating.

One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury battling the blaze.

The Red Cross is assisting the families involved in the fire.

It is unclear how the fire started.
