15-Year-Old Girl Struck By Car In Randolph Dies
RANDOLPH (CBS) -- A 15-year-old East Boston girl struck by a car in Randolph Tuesday night has died as a result of her injuries.
Laura Viera was struck shortly before 8 p.m. while crossing the intersection of Oak and North Main Streets, as snow began to fall heavily. She was taken to Milton Hospital and then to Boston Hospital, where she died Wednesday morning.
Viera had come to Randolph to visit a friend. Police said the car that hit her had a green light.
"It looks like an accident at this point," said Randolph Police Chief William Pace.
The driver of the 2000 Chrysler that struck Viera stayed at the scene to speak with police. No charges have been filed at this time.
Randolph Police and the Norfolk District Attorney's Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit are investigating the collision. They said that, so far, all the traffic lights at the intersection were found to be working correctly, and are trying to determine if Viera or the driver were distracted at the time.
