Friends Say Lowell Fire Victims Went Back Inside To Find Dogs
LOWELL (CBS) - A mother is mourning the loss of her 72-year-old son.
"I can't get over this," said Helen Downs, who says her son Bobby was one of the seven victims of the Lowell inferno.
Bobby Downs died along with his roommate Tina Christakos according to family members. They couldn't get out of their burning third-floor apartment.
"He and a bunch of little Chihuahuas that he was taking care of," said Beverly Downs, Bobby's sister. "Tina wanted to go back in after them, she really loved her dogs, they went in and never came back out."
Two others in their apartment did get out including Vaen Phoeun who said he too thinks his roommates went back to find their dogs.
Today he was at The Wish Project where he was picking up supplies generously donated by a community doing what it can.

Tha Doss was one of the dozens of survivors who have lost everything and are relying on that help.
She was woken up by the smoke and flames. "Feel hot to my face, fire, I look, I cannot see, a lot of smoke came to my face," said Doss.
