White Fox Captured After Roaming Around Franklin

FRANKLIN (CBS) -- The Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife captured an unusual creature last week.

The department said this white or "marbled" fox was roaming around Franklin.

Officials said the fox was likely being illegally kept as a pet. (Mass. Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife)

"Based on its behavior and coloring, we've concluded this was an escaped or released "marbled" fox that was illegally kept as a pet," the department said in a Facebook post.

They asked anyone who knew about it possibly being kept as a pet should contact either them or the Massachusetts Environmental Police, and linked to more information on their website about keeping wildlife as pets.

They said they had to capture the fox because, based on its behavior and coloring, she would not have been able to survive in the wild.

The fox now is in the care of Animal Adventures in Bolton, where caretakers have nicknamed her "Frankie."

In a video posted on their Facebook page, Animal Adventures said anyone looking to help with Frankie's medical bills, or help get her a new enclosure, can donate on their website.
