Former Somerville Officer Charged With Breaking Into Police Station

SOMERVILLE (CBS) - A man fired from the Somerville Police force is now charged with breaking into the police station.

Samuel Standford, 28, stood in open court, with his head down, listening to accusations that he broke into and stole from the department where he once wore a badge himself.

Fired in July for opioid use, prosecutors say Standford returned to the Somerville Police Department in early August at night. Cameras allegedly show him use a key code to gain access to the building, where authorities say he stole a weapon from a locker room.

The following day, another officer alerted his superiors that his weapon was missing from his locker.

When police searched his Somerville apartment Wednesday, an apartment Stanford shares with his brother and mother, they say they found approximately 150 tablets of Percocet, heroin, $20,000 cash, ammunition, and other items.

Samuel Stanford's younger brother, Edward Stanford, was also arraigned on possession charges. He posted bail.

Samuel Standford is currently being held on $25,000 cash bail.
