Former Prosecutor Indicted, Charged With Trading Information For Drugs

BOSTON (CBS) – A former Massachusetts Assistant District Attorney has been indicted, accused of trading information in exchange for drugs.

Stephen Gilpatric, 35, of Somerville, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of unlawful gratuity, unlawfully communicating criminal offender record information, and receiving unlawful compensation.

Gilpatric was a Middlesex Assistant District Attorney from November 2007 to October 2014, which is when investigators began looking into allegations against him.

Attorney General Martha Coakley said on Thursday that in October 2011 Gilpatric allegedly gave his drug dealer information he had obtained through his work as an ADA in exchange for oxycodone pills.

The information included a Board of Probation record, a police report, a photograph, and other personal information, Coakley said.

Gilpatric also allegedly provided a criminal record and organizational chart of a drug ring to his own drug supplier, hoping to receive oxycodone in exchange.

Investigators said Gilpatric was spending hundreds of dollars each week to feed his oxycodone addiction.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at 9 a.m.
