Former Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli Reportedly Meeting With Edmonton Oilers

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's been one week since Peter Chiarelli was fired by the Boston Bruins, but he may not be unemployed for long.

The former Bruins general manager was in Edmonton meeting with the Oilers on Wednesday, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Mark Spector:

The Oilers, who finished 24-44-14 in 2014-15, have the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft. They also named Bob Nicholson the new CEO of the team, meaning everyone in the front office now reports to him.

It's unclear what position Chiarelli is chatting with the Oilers about, with Craig MacTavish in place at general manager and Kevin Lowe serving as president of hockey operations. But more change could be on the way in Edmonton, and Chiarelli could take over for either MacTavish or Lowe.

The Bruins went 386-233-85 in Chiarelli's eight-plus years as general manager, winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and returning to the final in 2013.
