First Responders, Public Honor Boston Police Officer Who Died On Duty
RANDOLPH (CBS) - A Boston police officer who died in the line of duty was laid to rest on Thursday.
Officer Dennis Simmonds died after suffering a medical emergency at the police training academy last week.
A city of Boston flag draped his coffin at his funeral in Randolph.

Simmonds was 28 years old. According to Boston Police, Simmonds was appointed to the department in 2008 and was assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force. He was described as a highly decorated officer
Next month, President Obama was scheduled to honor Simmonds for his bravery in the Watertown shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
Simmonds suffered a head injury after one of the suspects threw an explosive at him.
