Firefighters Rescue Man, 2 Dogs From Revere Marsh
REVERE (CBS) - Firefighters rescued a man from a marsh after he tried to retrieve his two dogs from an ice floe Thursday morning in Revere, officials say.
Shortly before 11 a.m., emergency crews were called to the Maggi Road near the Oak Island for a water-and-ice rescue.
The dogs's owner attempted to go after them and became stuck in chest-high snow and ice.
Firefighters crawled out with stokes and got him to an ambulance for transport.
An ice sled was brought to the site on Woodland Road.
Two firefighters in ice suits went out roughly 500 feet from shore to rescue the dogs. However, the dogs were uncooperative during the mission, as one firefighter was bitten.
The dogs were put on the sled and pulled to shore.
A front-end loader was brought to the site to clear waist-high snow to the water's edge.
The Coast Guard air wing was unable to respond and Massachusetts State Police were sending an air boat but it was not needed.
