Lawrence firefighters entered the N-Tek building on Ballard Road at about 1:30 a.m. and saw yellow smoke caused by a nitric acid leak. Nitric acid can be fatal on contact.

Approximately 165 gallons leaked from a container.

The firefighters were ordered out of the building and were taken to a local hospital to be treated. They were later released.

Six homes in Andover and two homes in Lawrence were evacuated as a precaution.

N-Tek is a metal finishing company.

Firefighters are working to determine the cause of the chemical leak. N-Tek's owner declined to comment on the incident.
