Firefighters Free Person Trapped Underneath Red Line Train

BOSTON (CBS) -- Firefighters freed a person trapped underneath a Red Line train Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to the Downtown Crossing MBTA station at 2:25 p.m. for a report of a person under an outbound train, the Boston Fire Department said.

The person is being treated and transported by paramedics. It wasn't immediately clear how the person got on the tracks, and transit police are investigating.

Witnesses told WBZ-TV's Beth Germano that they say a man teetering on the yellow line on the platform before falling in front of an oncoming train.

"We all flew. When the train stopped, it stopped so hard that we flew. So we knew something was up," passenger Caitlin Corbett said.

Firefighters had to use jacks to lift the train and remove the conscious man from beneath the train.

Service was delayed significantly as a result of the incident, but has since resumed with residual delays.
