Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Quincy Fire

QUINCY (CBS) -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Quincy on Saturday afternoon.

The fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. on Bessie Street.

The blaze started on the back deck of a second-floor apartment. There are four apartments in the building.

Neighbor Dan Perry says he witnessed the flames and rushed over to the building to make sure everyone got out safely.

"I saw a fire, so I ran across," he says. "I banged on the doors for people to get out, and then ran back home and called 911."

The fire was knocked down before 5:30 p.m.

No civilians were hurt in the fire. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Four families were displaced.

Fire chief Joseph Barron says the building is a total loss.
