Fire Destroys Snow Removal Equipment In New Hampshire Town

HENNIKER, N.H. (CBS) -- A fire at a Public Works Department garage in Henniker, NH, Friday night destroyed almost all of the snow removal equipment for the town.

The snow removal trucks had just returned from cleaning the streets for the day when a fire began in the garage where the trucks were stored, the Concord Monitor reports.

Firefighters fought the blaze for nearly four hours. No one was injured in the fire.

Five dump trucks and a grader were destroyed, which is the majority of equipment used to clean the area roads, the town's Fire Chief told the Concord Monitor. The fire caused over $1 million worth of damage.

Surrounding towns have offered equipment and assistance.

The fire appears to be unintentional and likely started in the engine of one of the vehicles, according to the state's Fire Marshal's office.
